Essential
ESSENTIAL
A strong BLACK PENG GIRL
Raised and built different
She lives in the world
But feels far away from it
Because of where she comes from
A culture that varies from us
Society points at her
Here and there, that depresses and suppress her
Like a person being stranded to death
She tries to hard to fit in,
She tries so hard to be free like us
Her family and her fear
Every time they step out
So they isolate, like a person hidden
behind close doors
But within, has a lively spirit, so much that humanity
Cannot handle a pure and free soul
Dances like a fearless warrior
Her footsteps draws souls closer to her
A young maiden, but has a mind of great philosophy
Someday, I believe she is going fabricate history.
The origins of dreadlocks can be traced back to ancient cultures around the world. The earliest written evidence of dreadlocks dates back to between 2500 and 1500 BC: the God Shiva and his followers are described as jaTaa, meaning « wearing knots of tangled hair ».
"Dreadlocks have long been discriminated against in the workplace due to negative stereotypes and misconceptions about natural hairstyles. Despite being a culturally significant hairstyle for many, some employers have viewed dreadlocks as unprofessional or unsuitable for the workplace." 8 Apr 2023
This is from an article I read on the internet.
In our part of the world, we look at the outward appearance and then just determine what the people are.
But what is most important is inner beauty.
Looking at the inward part of a person makes it easier to understand and relate to people rather than being so judgemental, because we are all full of imperfections.
The stares, discrimination, stigmatization and other unfair treatments because of your hair.
But through it all you embrace all of it and channelled your mind to positivity.
Thank you Grace. I was so inspired by your story and how you overcame.
It made me understand a lot of controversial issues relating to your culture, family heritage and the likes.
I am not only speaking about dreadlocks and people who have decided to live a particular lifestyle,
but my advice is we should learn not to judge a book by it's cover.
So Grace, my Nigerian sister, this is dedicated to you.
Much 💗
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
